This was a heck of a surprise find during a recent trip to the liquor store. I wandered in just aimlessly looking for something new. The bottle drew my eye, the odd list of principal ingredients piqued my interest, and a few minutes Googling the brand later, I was determined to give it a shot.
The first thing I want to say is this is not minty. Peppermint and eucalyptus are among the botanicals used, but they support the many other elements in the gin. This is infinitely sippable all by itself. If your idea of a martini is gin that looked askew at vermouth before dismissing it, this is an excellent choice.
The yerba mate adds a completely unique flavor to this gin. The citrus notes are just right. There is a fruitiness to it, and a hint of pepper, with a dry finish. It would make a fantastic Aviation, in my opinion. Maker Renato Giovannoni told Centurion magazine his favorite way to drink it is on its own, "that, or with a dash of Cynar, tonic water and a sprig of eucalyptus.”
I paid $34 USD for it. I consider it a smart buy at that price. This gin comes highly recommended by your good Doctor Stark. Take a few ounces internally and repeat as desired. :)
